Māori MPs run on record
Labour’s Māori MPs have gone into fighting mode after last night’s 1News Verian poll put the party under 30 percent for the first time in six years.
Labour was on 29 percent, eight points behind National on 37 percent with ACT on 13 percent, the Greens on 12 percent and New Zealand First still not crossing the 5 percent threshold.
That means a National-ACT government in October with 65 seats.
Northcote MP Shanan Halbert, who’s in a rematch with Dan Bidois for the once-blue stronghold, believes he’s put in the mahi to retain the seat.
“I’ve served my community well, I’ve delivered more classrooms, more hospital beds, better infrastructure for our community. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and I believe that my community will support me to be the MP,” he says.
