Raukawa-Tait pushes unity amongst campaign discord

Te Pati Māori’s Rotorua candidate broke with tradition by inviting the other candidates to her campaign launch last week.
Merepeka Raukawa-Tait says the packed-out event also drew business leaders, board trustees, regional and district council representatives, church leaders, iwi rangatira and urban Māori whānau.
She says New Zealand deserves to have everyone singing from the same song sheet, not adversarial politics.
“I am not there to slag anybody else. All I’m there to say is Māori have unlimited potential,. we must focus on our youth in particular, and we must make the decisions that are going to ensure they see themselves playing a role in New Zealand’s future, in Aotearoa,” she says.
Ms Raukawa-Tait says the Rotorua electorate has one of the largest Māori populations on the general roll, so she’s pushing for both ticks.
