Te Aka Whai Ora takes action on poor report
The chief executive of Te Aka Whai Ora says most of the issues identified in the first annual monitoring report of the Māori Health Authority have been addressed or are well on the way to being fixed.
Riana Manuel says the Hauora Maori Advisory Committee report did highlight the establishment of 15 Iwi Māori Partnership Boards, the authority’s contribution to the development of the Pae Tū –Hauora Māori Strategy, and its support for communities affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and flooding in Tāmaki Makaurau.
It also found the authority had underspent by $66 million and failed to bring across enough staff from the former district health boards with skills and experience in areas like commissioning and contract management.
Ms Manuel says the report was a valuable health check for the new organisation.
