He Rau Aroha plan connects engineers to iwi
A project by environmental social scientist Marie McCarthy to rally Māori leaders from the infrastructure sector to work with iwi and communities impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle has won $40,500 in the inaugural round of the Engineering New Zealand Foundation’s grant programme.
Trustees say He Rau Aroha has the potential to kickstart valuable work that will make a real impact on vulnerable communities.
It will be supported by Tonkin +Taylor with pro-bono time from participating consultancies Beca, WSP New Zealand, Stantec, Pattle Delamore Partners and Mott MacDonald.
The foundation also gave WSP graduate water engineer Alyce Lysaght $9,620 towards the hosting and production for another year of her popular podcast, Māori in Engineering.
