App brings Arawa history to mountain bikers

A new app is bringing Te Arawa stories to cyclists using the mountain bike hub Te Pūtake o Tawa in the Whakarewarewa Forest.
App developer Matt Browning says it will allow cyclists to interact with certain markers to call up text, pictures, videos and augmented reality.
The app was supported by Rotorua Lakes Council, with content, voice-overs and art from local iwi Ngāti Whakaue, Tūhourangi and Ngāti Wāhiao.
“It’s come from thme so we’ve been directed and led by them so they are happy with what’s in there because we won’t build anything are or start any process without their approval or their input,” Mr Browning says.
The Whakarewarewa Forest Loop App is available now on the Apple App store and Google Play
