Buddy cop musical comedy a festival crack up

A musical written for the Kia Mau Festival in Wellington is being described as a cross between Hamilton and Lethal Weapon.
Flames, written by Roy Iro, Reon Bell and Sepelini Mua’au, features a pair of private detectives as they attempt to solve a series of arsons across the capital.
Moana Ete, who also performs as Mo Etc, says she put her hand up to be involved when she heard the producers wanted to “step things up” for the festival.
“It’s kind of a wild ride and it’s just a crazy buddy cop comedy so we’ve just been laughing and cracking up at every corner,” she says.
Flames: a hip-hop musical, will be at the Circa Theatre from next Tuesday to Saturday.
Mo Etc has also got a new four-song EP out, BUOYS – which she says is heavily influenced by her Samoan/Maori upbringing.
