Selwyn Parata knighted in King’s Birthday Honours
Ngati Porou has another knight.
Selwyn Tanetoa Parata, the chair of Te Runanga o Ngati Porou, has been made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in The King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours List.
Mr Parata has also been the chair of Te Matatini since 2008 and the chair of Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa since 2014.
At the top of today’s list was Her Majesty The Queen Camilla, who was made a member of the Order of New Zealand for services to New Zealand.
Former prime minister Jacinda Ardern was made a Dame Grand Companion of the order.
Also knighted were Wayne Smith, who coached the Black Ferns to Women’s Rugby World Cup victory and was also assistance coach for the All Blacks
and the 2011 and 2015 world cups, and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Kos KC.
Ngapuhi and Ngahi Hine kaumatua Kevin Prime was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori, the environment and
health.
