Extras for climate change, defence in no frills Budget
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says she hopes to see more money for climate change in today’s Budget.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson is calling Budget 2023 Support for today, building for tomorrow.
It will include almost $1 billion for flood and cyclone recovery, as well as extra finding for the Nee Zealand Defence Force and to build more schools and classrooms.
Ms Davidson’s family and sexual violence portfolio gets a boost of $73.48 million, including initiatives for disabled people, children and young people and tangata whenua.
“So filling some of those long-neglected gaps to communities and people who are unfairly disproportionately impacted on by violence and who need that specialist support. That’s for example $8.6 million for specialist kaupapa Maori specialist sexual violence services for whanau and $6.1 million for safeguarding adults at risk and disabled people from whanau and abuse,” she says
