Kerekere says work continues despite split
Newly independent MP Elizabeth Kerekere says she will continue to work with constituents despite no longer having a party role.
Dr Kerekere quit last week after a dispute with party leaders about the way an investigation into allegations about her treatment of colleagues and staff was being handled.
She says she will continue to sit on the health select committee and work on making laws, as well as interacting with communities.
“I was a leader in Rainbow communities long before I got this job. I will continue with that work. Throughout this debacle I have continued to go out and meet with our people. Right after it first happened, five weeks ago, we were at the Ahurei for three days in Tuhoe meeting with kaumatua and whanau there and as far as most of the people on the ground, none of this matters to hem,” she says.
Dr Kerekere says the Green Party did not look after her well as a Maori woman.
