Emergency Management kicks in as Auckland floods again

Auckland is again cleaning up after a month of rain fell in a day yesterday.
One rain gauge at Orewa recorded 49.5mm of rain in one hour during the morning, and Te Pai Park weather station in Henderson had recorded 91.5mm of rain by 3pm.
There was flooding across the city, especially in the north and west, and Auckland Emergency Management set up emergency centres at Westgate and Albany.
Duty controller Rachel Kelleher says people were understandably anxious, with many still trying to recover form the Auckland Anniversary Weekend floods back in January.
“The good news is that over the weekend we’ve got a nice high coming, according to MetService, which will certainly be helpful in terms of drying things out. But over the next couple of days we’ll be keeping an eye on what’s happened down on the ground, making sure people are supported, communities are supported, If people have had to leave homes, we have got our building assessment teams on standby ready to do any assessment work that needs to happen,” she says.
Ms Kelleher says people should plan any trips if they have to travel and check if roads are open.
