Charity challenge extends mental health message
A Point Chevalier cafe owner caught up in a charity triathlon spanning the North Island says it’s what happens off the road that counts.
The Due Drop Hope Challenge aims to raise money for the free youth mental health counselling sessions run by Mike King’s I Am Hope Trust.
Karim Rostami says as a survivor of childhood polio he understands the need for support in getting through adversity.
He says the challenge is not just about former elite athletes trying to out-do each other in running, swimming, kayaking and cycling but it’s the public meetings in each town they stop at.
“As much as it’s a fundraiser, as much as it’s an event, it’s more the awareness of it and that people do care and there is service available if you guys need it. When people come to spend time with us and free up their day it’s been fantastic. Can’t wait to get down to the bottom and keep smashing it as we go,” Mr Rostami says.
The Due Drop Hope Challenge is in Taupo today, New Plymouth tomorrow and ends at parliament next Wednesday.
