FOMA eyes productivity increase
The Federation of Māori Authorities is meeting in Wellington this week for its first economic conference since the start of the pandemic – and the health of not only the Māori economy but the national economy is on the agenda.
Long-serving member Paul Morgan from Nelson’s Wakatū Incorporation says members are looking forward to an update on the challenges of the Cyclone Gabrielle recovery, with many executive members serving on the recovery panels in Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti and the north.
They’ll also hear from Productivity Commission chair Ganesh Nana, who has a long relationship with FOMA and a keen interest in the contribution Māori make to the economy.
“Māori have shown over the last two or three decades, in coming together and improving our capability, the skills of our people, we can be competitive and we can improve the lot of our local organisations,” Mr Morgan says.
FOMA also has a keen interest in water and climate change issues which affect all its members.
