Download AudioMaimoa has called it quits.
Maimoa started as a group of current and former presenters of Maori Television show Pūkana who were brought together to record the waiata Maimoatia for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori in 2016, but they quickly turned into a proper band, releasing a string of charting singles.
Member Awatea Wihongi says it’s been a great ride, but the current single, Titoki from the album Maimoa 2.0, is their last.
She says the demands of new parenthood and individual careers got in the way.
“I’m really honing in to being a parent, all of our members and also I guess living their own lives. It was a great time while it lasted but we’ve all got to grow up at some stage and unfortunately now is the day that we’ve had to grow up,” she says.
