Lotto fundraiser sends wrong message

Download AudioAuckland Action Against Poverty campaigner Brook Stanley Pao says holding a special Lotto draw as a fundraiser for Cyclone Gabrielle relief sends the wrong message.
The March 18 draw has also come under fire from Problem Gambling NZ and the Green Party as normalising gambling.
Ms Stanley Pao says it shows the Government hasn’t thought through the issues of what it will take to adjust or climate change, or about the harm gambling does in poorer communities.
“Just borrow more money and tax wealth. Make sure communities have what they need, everything they need in order to prepare for what’s coming and make this part of a just transiton to a system that honours Te Tiriti and Matike Mai, that looks for constitutional transformation,” she says.
Ms Stanley Pao it’s not right that in the current system some people can’t afford food and rent.
