Insurance scrambling to keep up with claims

Tamaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare says the land is still shifting at the Auckland west coast settlements of Muriwai and Piha, making it hard to fully assess the extent of damage from Cyclone Gabrielle.
Other areas still lack power, or are difficult to access because of slips or floods.
He says the city is still in response rather than recovery mode.
“I also heard from insurance companies saying this is in the same realm as the great Queensland flood (of 2011) which flooded Brisbane where they have just been inundated with claims so they are doing their best to get around all the properties to make sure they can do assessments,” Mr Henare says.
He is also seeing whanau in Tamaki Makaurau coming together and raising funds for relations in flood damaged Tairawhiti and Heretaunga Ahuriri.
