Aid starts reaching Wairoa

Starlink satellite communication systems have been delivered to flood-devastated Wairoa, which lost electricity and communications links when Cyclone Gabrielle swept through five days ago.
A convoy carrying emergency supplies including food, water and fuel reached the northern Hawke’s Bay town yesterday afternoon.
Te Tai Rawhiti MP Meka Whaitiri says the New Zealand Defence Forces has been deployed to bring in supplies and commmunications equipment.
“It’s not a long flight from Napier so even if we have to do multiple visits the priority was to get some communictions up there and obviously to get some food in,” she says.
The relief effort also includes getting supplies to Wairoa’s rural hinterland including Mahia, Nuhaka, Mohaka, and Raupunga.
The navy ship Te Mana is being readied to sail to Hawke’s Bay with more supplies.
