Trees dance as Gabrielle hits Taitokerau
The president of the Principals’ Federation says it would have been an easy decision for schools to decide to stay open or close, depending the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on their areas.
Leanne Otene says her own area at One Tree Point south of Whangarei experienced high winds, rain, flooding and power outages overnight, and it was even worse further north.
“The trees are dancing. It’s pretty freaky to watch, to be quite honest, and now the rain is realy pounding us, there’s flooding across the area, trees and branches down, so it was wise to send warnings out across Taitokerau and Tairawhiti and Gisborne where I’m told they are having similar experiences,” she says.
