Māori add mauri to business mix

A senior business lecturer says the commercial world can learn a lot from Māori business.
Dr Kiri Dell from Auckland University’s School of Business and Management says classic capitalism is focused on maximising productivity.
Many Māori businesses practice a form of conscious capitalism which tries to be less destructive and considers not just the material world but what it means to be human.
“So our beautiful concepts such as mauri and mana and wairua and hau, all these beautiful concepts about how we live energetically are part of our everyday living. That’s a beautiful part of Maori business that doesn’t get captured by capitalism,” she says.
Kiri Dell says Maori also bring an inter-generational perspective to business decisions.
