Māoriland Film Festival Indigenous chance to share

The Māoriland Film Festival in Otaki is celebrating its 10 year anniversary next month with its biggest offering yet.
Festival director Libby Hakaraia says there will be 140 short and feature films from Indigenous filmmakers across five days.
She says Māoriland has grown from a small festival to boost the profile of Ōtaki to an internationally renowned event.
“We didn’t start this because we thought it was anything other than us as Māori having screens, owning the screens to be able to share Indigenous stories, Indigenous films, Indigenous art history, connections, whakawhanaungatanga, at home with our people, and we’ve done that,” Ms Hakaraia says.
Māoriland runs from March 15 to 19, with tickets available from its website. ((link to website))
