Waititi applies lunar approach to climate change

Maori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi says indigenous knowledge could help people plan for the increasing frequency of so-called one in 100 year events.
He says the third of the population which lives in Tamaki Makaurau is now experiencing what people in Te Tairawhiti have faced repeatedly.
That should make them more open to change and embracing what can be learned from concepts like maramataka, the lunar calendar.
“Living back in our natural state and allowing that to influence things and changing our behaviour I think is going to be key and only indigenous knowledge will help change what’s happening with the climate. Western science is what’s got us here in the first place and it will not help in regards to improving things,” Mr Waititi says.
