Willow Jean Prime gets ministerial practicing certificate

Northland MP Willow Jean Prime has been sworn in as the new Minister of Conservation.
She also holds the Youth portfolio and is an associate minister for Health and for Arts, Culture and Heritage.
Ms Prime, who is from Te Kāpotai, Ngāti HIne, and Ngā Puhi, says Northland’s weather-related state of emergency means the ceremony in Wellington didn’t go quite to plan.
“It’s a really happy day for me and my for whanau but also sad – the flights were cancelled last night so the whanau made the call I would leave my babies at home and join the team here, along with my husband who is supporting me. My daughters think mama is coming to get a tiwhikete, a certificate,” he says.
Willow Jean Prime was sworn in alongside her Maori caucus co-chair Rino Tirikatene, who stepped up to become Minister for Courts and Minister of State for Trade and Export Growth in this week’s reshuffle.
