ACT not invited to Ratana
ACT MP Nicole McKee says the party skipped this year’s Ratana celebrations because it wasn’t invited.
While National Party leader Chris Luxon used the hui to attack co-governance, ACT’s David Seymour skipped the opportunity to explain his policy of a referendum on the Treaty of Waitangi to a movement which was formed to ensure the treaty was honoured.
Ms McKee says ACT sees Waitangi Day rather than Ratana as the start of the political year.
“We’ve always wanted to support the church and what they do but they do align with Labour se we’ve seen it as the start of Labour’s political year rather than everybody’s political year, but in saying that we’ve never been invited to Ratana, so we don’t go where we’re not invited,” she says.
