Indigneous shorts to hit cinemas
New Zealand cinema-goers will get the chance next week to see We are Still Here, a celebration of indigenous resilience that has been wowing film festival audiences around the world.
The film collects eight stories from Aotearoa, Australia and the South Pacific.
Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne, who features in Te Puuru, the chapter helmed by directors Tim Worrall & Richard Curtis chapter about 19th century Tūhoe rangatira Te Whenuanui and his daughter Te Mauniko, says they’re stories that have a powerful impact on people.
“I knew it was a special project because it was collaboration Ngā Iwi Taketake o te Whenua Moemoea and us, and I knew it was eight powerful short films, so I knew it was going to do well but I didn’t know how everyone was going to taker it,” she says.
We Are Still Here will be in theatres from February 2.
