Luxon wants youth focus on crime, not votes

National Party leader Chris Luxon says the Government should be thinking about young criminals, not young voters.
The Prime Minister has promised to give parliament a vote on lowering the voting age to 16, in response to a Supreme Court direction that the way the current level of 18 was set was incompatible with the Bill of Rights Act.
Mr Luxon says that’s a waste of time.
“I think there are much more substantive issues for New Zealand to be focused on right here, right now and we have some major challenges with respect to access to courts, we have some major challenges around ram raids, around violent crime, around gangs. That’s where the Government’s focus should be right now,” he says.
National has ordered its MPs to block vote against lowering the voting age.
