Wairau Gallery gets gold mark
Wairau Māori Art Gallery chair Elizabeth Ellis says getting gold-level Qualmark sustainable tourism certification for Whangarei’s Hunderwasser Art Centre complex should help get more visitors through the doors.
She says it puts the complex in the top 20 percent of Aotearoa tourism businesses, alongside Hobbiton in Matamata, Te Papa in Wellington and another Taitokerau attraction, the Matakohe Kauri Museum.
“We’re hoping that the qualmark will bring our people in. This gallery is about Māori – it’s Māori-curated. Māori artists. And everything in it is Māori. Within our space we are an independent charitable trust,” Ms Ellis says.
