Armistice Day chance for reflection
Its Armistice Day, the day when on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, World War One ended after almost five brutal years.
Lieutenant Colonel Glenn King, the senior Māori advisor to the Chief of Defence, says the minute of silence taken round the world at this time is a chance to remember those who have given their lives in all wars.
“It is a momentum that signifies the ending of the Great War in 1918 but just to take a pause and reflect and be thankful for what we’ve got in our country. Even though we’ve got a lot going on we can still be thankful we’re living in a wonderful place at our end of the Pacific,” he says.
