Foodbanks struggle as demand rises
New Zealand Food Network says the long-lasting impacts of Covid-19 and the rising cost of living continued to drive demand for food support.
A survey of 43 food charities from around the country has revealed that the demand for food support found
the top three reasons for requesting food support were low household income due to low paying jobs, unemployment, and Covid-19 isolation.
Nearly half of the food hubs reported requests from senior citizens living on low fixed income (such as pensions), and 44 percent said they says people living with disability, sickness or injury,
Network chief executive Gavin Findlay says NZFN food hubs support over half a million people a month, and more donations were needed.
