Stark choices for election 2023
Labour deputy leader Kelvin Davis says a National win at next year’s election would be bad news for anyone who is not a pakeha male.
Extending on his speech to Labour’s weekend conference, he says National’s headline policy is tax cuts for the rich, and any gains made in the past five years will go.
There’s also a problem with its coalition partner ACT.
“They’re looking at making Maoridom invisible, so this is the ACT Party and this is the condition of them being in Government – they’ll get rid of Te Puni Kokiri, they’ve said they’ll get rid of Te Arawhiti, they’ll get rid of the Ministry of Pacific Affairs, the Ministry of Women. Anything that looks after the needs of anyone who’s not a pakeha, male, is going to go,” he says.
Mr Davis says the $190 million cost of living package announced at the conference including great access to childcare support is heartland Labour policy which would be under threat with a change of government.
