Organiser Heather Te Au Skipworth says there were a record 3000-plus entries to the weekend’s half-triathlon event at Napier, almost double the previous competition.
She says it was a relief after the restrictions of the past two years which have strained the organisation’s finances, and having whānau back in big numbers was an emotional experience.
“It was just great to be back and to have it and to know we survived, when you’ve got people’s lives that, dare I say it humbly, that actually rely on this kaupapa,” Ms Te Au-Skipworth says.
