Alien rock and slam poetry winning formula for Māori educator
Otago Polytechnic lecturer Rachel Dibble from Ngāti Ruanui and Ngā Ruahine has won a Te Whatu Kairangi -Ako Aotearoa Tertiary Educator Award for 2022.
Ms Dibble says as an educator she strives to facilitate authentic learning experiences that come from recognition of mana whenua space – and are founded on the provisions of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Her approach includes facilitating education through multimedia, incorporating Māori voices such as heavy rock band Alien Weaponry and the slam poetry group Ngā Hine Pūkōrero.
Ms Dibble is one of nine awardees nationally in line for the Prime Minister’s Tertiary Educator of the Year Award – which will be announced on November 23.
