New workforce group to act as an influencer for Māori, Pacific peoples and Tangata Whaikaha

“We want to speak with the people about how we can help shape education and training, that opens up opportunities for their local communities,” says Chief Executive Donovan Clarke of Toituu Te Waiora, a newly established Workforce Development Council for Community Health, Education, and Social Services.
One of six councils who are part of the transformation within Vocational Education, Donovan says Toituu Te Waiora acts as an influencer, to lead the development of industry qualifications, that will help improve access and progress outcomes for Māori, Pacific Peoples, and Tangata Whaikaha (People with Disabilities).
“Our team are driven by a belief that the lives of our whānau can be improved through the transformation of education and workforce development. Over the next 3 months we will be holding events across the country with our roadshow Te Hikoi o Toituu te Waiora “.says Donovan.
.”It’s vital we take our kaupapa to as many places as possible, so we can hear what the people have to say. We want them to share their experiences, and identify the gaps in the workforce, so we can help industries to get the skills they require for their respective workforce. We also want to assist them, in providing employment opportunities, that recognize the importance and value of Matauranga Māori, and can provide a stronger voice to Māori business and Iwi development.” says Donovan Clarke.
Te Hikoi o Toituu te Waiora, held events in Christchurch, Hokitika ,Invercargill and Dunedin, and have attracted a wide audience including Iwi, Te Pukenga, Industry leaders, and Providers of training. partners.
Donovan Clarke says “We’ve had an amazing response to our events, and the more people that come along and share their views the better. We see our role as one that is guided by the voices and aspirations of our people, so we can contribute to transforming workforce development and education, in ways that will provide future success outcomes and opportunities for all”.
