Call out for portraits of tupuna


Entries have opened for the 2023 Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award.
The New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata and the Office of the Kiingitanga launched the award in 2020 in to inspire a new generation of emerging Māori artists to create portraits of their tūpuna.
It’s open to emerging Māori artists who have either created an artwork within the last two years, or wish to create an artwork especially for the competition, using any visual medium.
The $20,000 first prize winner will be revealed at the opening of an exhibition of finalists at the Wellington-based gallery on May 24.
Entries close on March 23 next year.
