Whanau keen to add Green tinge to Poneke

Wellington’s new mayor says she will push hard for the environment and Māori.
She says the size of her win shows Wellingtonians were happy to have a wahine Māori as mayor.
They also responded to her alternative view of the capital city.
“I’ve been very clear during the campaign and with our new councillors that I will be pushing for the environment during my mayoralty and of course for better outcomes for our people and especially those sleeping rough on the street, which is just so in line with a lot of Green policy,” she says.
Ms Whanau says she comes from a Labour family background and embraced the Green’s policy when she became the party’s chief of staff.
