Ruha shines in Tui shortlist


Rob Ruha has emerged as a front runner for this year’s Aotearoa Music Awards with six nominations, including album and single of the year, best solo artist, best Māori artist, best soul/ R’n’B artist the Mana Reo Award.
The choir he mentored, Ka Hao, is up for five awards, and L.A.B. hoped to repeat last year’s haul of four Tui.
Other nominees include Tami Neilson, Lorde, Reb Fountain, Alien Weaponry, Shihad and Sit Down In Front.
Four new artists have emerged for the breakthrough artist of the year category: band of brothers COTERIE, singer songwriter Georgia Lines, London-based multi-instrumentalist Jordan Rakei and Ōtautahi indie pop band There’s A Tuesday.
Other 2022 Aotearoa Music Award finalists include Aldous Harding for her album Warm Chris, Marlon Williams for his My Boy single and The Beths for Silence is Golden, Fat Freddy’s Drop, BENEE, Ben Woods, Te Kaahu , Vera Ellen and Jackson Owens.
The winners will be announced on November 10.
