Ngapaki Moetara runs a tikanga-based programme, Pakiwaitara, at Te Wananga o Aotearoa’s Gisborne campus.
She says it draws on her background in the performing arts and facilitating group work, and adds a Maori lens.
“Our whakapapa is actually what drives us to make the best choices in terms of our leadership. It’s not some cool model from anywhere else. It’s actually our own stories and often what I find with our tauira this year, it’s about reconnecting them with the whare, the whare that is them,” Ms Moetara says.
Applications for the next Pakiwaitara course are now open.
