Search continues for Pike River evidence
A widow of one of the miners killed in the Pike River explosion is welcoming a police decision to resume drilling of boreholes.
Police say they have evaluated results from the initial drilling programme which ended in March and identified gaps in the information they need if they are to prosecute.
Twenty nine men died in the explosion in the coal mine 15 yeas ago.
Anna Osborne says at least three of those who died had Maori connections.
“any time we have celebration up there or something our local iwi comes along and does a blessing which is really important because they are the custodians of the land. we need to respect that,” she says.
Anna Osborne says the families lobbied for more investigations after overseas exports pointed out the shortcomings in the initial investigation.
