No SFO action on Māori Party donation delay

Māori Party president John Tamihere says he’s welcoming advice from the Serious Fraud Office that it would not investigate a complaint about the party and its previous secretary.
Police asked the SFO to look into a complaint the party had not informed the Electoral Commission of three donations over $30,000 within 10 working days of them being received.
The donations were received in 2020 from Mr Tamihere, Aotearoa Te Kahu and the National Urban Māori Authority, and were included in the party’s regular reporting.
In the same election cycle the National Party was warned by the Electoral Commission for not reporting a large donation, but the matter was not referred to the policeo or the SFO.
