Maniapoto casts off Crown structure
Ngāti Maniapoto Māori Trust Board has been formally wound up with a dawn ceremony yesterday at its Te Kuiti headquarters.
The old signs were taken down, and the new logo unveiled for the post-settlement governance entity, Te Nehenehenui Trust.
Pat Rore Stafford, the chair of the marae support organisation Ngati Maniapoto Marae Pact Trust, says the iwi has come a long way from the days it had to source funds through the old Tainui Maori Trust Board.
He says the new structure will be accountable to the people, not the Crown.
Te Nehenehenui is chaired by Bella Takiari-Brame, an accountant and professional director who returned to Aotearoa a decade ago after an international career in oil, gas and utilities, treasury, bank financing and audit and risk.
