Aboriginal team for shearing sports

Australia-based New Zealand shearing legend Samson Te Whata is back for the start of the shearing sports season, bringing with him what’s billed as the first Australian indigenous shearing sports team to compete abroad.
They’ll be at the New Zealand Merino Shears in Alexandra on Friday and Saturday.
The 67-year-old veteran and four times winner of the New Zealand finewool shearing championship is now working with an Australian Aboriginal wool industry training programme
He says there’s a global shortage of skilled workers, but plenty of people living in towns and communities in the Australian Outback who could be shearing its sheep if they got the proper training.
Te Whata will be a reserve in the teams event as well as a transtasman finewool match on Saturday.
