Covid reporting shifts to weekly cycle

The Health Ministry is shifting to seven-day reporting on Covid-19.
Its deputy director general Maori, John Whaanga, says it will include averages on case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths.
It’s a chance to include more information on Maori and Pacific cases.
“It’s really important we collect good baseline information for the impact of Covid and it’s particularly important we’re collecting ethnicity information,” Mr Whaanga says.
The ministry has also commissioned research from Victoria University into long Covid, and it’s giving clinicians and the public more advice on how to recognise and manage it.
In the last week there have been 9809 new cases reported including 1052 reinfections.
There were eight deaths attributed to Covid over the week and 166 cases in hospital as at midnight Monday.
There are a total of 9786 active cases including 1118 Maori.
