Those intending to support the Black Ferns in next month’s women’s Rugby World Cup are being asked to bring a poi.

Former Ferns captain and Rugby New Zealand board member Farah Palmer says Wā Poi – Poi Time was suggested by Dame Hinewehi Mohi with support from mana whenua.

It will add a unique touch to the games at Eden Park and Waitākere Stadium.

“We’re not asking you to go to the Matatini Festival and do a massive poi performance. We just think this is a great way for us to celebrate and empower all our communities, out Maori and Pasifika,” she says.

Dr Palmer says organisers want people to have an amazing time, watch great rugby and be part of something that is about whakawhanaungatanga.
