Goff says world catching up to King Charles

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says King Charles the third may be a king for today.
Mr Goff met Queen Elizabeth and her son a number of times over the years.
He says on one occasion he was able to spend a relatively lengthy time with the then Prince of Wales and found he’d done his homework and was asking well-informed questions, inluding about Maori and Treaty matters.
“While people once regarded him as eccentric for his views on the environment, those views today are pretty mainstream, so it’s a case of the rest of the world catching up with Charles and some of the things he had been saying aboutwhat was important was the sustainability of the environment,” he says.
Asked if he might get to know King Charles better as High Commissioner to the Court of St James when his term as mayor ends, Phil Goff laughed and said if that comes about that could well be true.
