Southside of Bombay mastermind Kevin Hodges dies
A major force in the development of a kaupapa Maori music has died.
Kevin Hodges, also known as Kevin Hotu, was a founder member of Taste of Bounty alongside his Fuimaono cousins.
He went on to play guitar and saxophone with Aotearoa before setting up Southside of Bombay, whose song What’s the time Mr Wolf added a note of relief to the Once Were Warriors soundtrack.
Maori Development Minister Willie Jackson says he’s one of the unsung heroes of Maori music who worked in the background to make things happen.
Kevin Hodges will be taken today from Takapuwaha Marae in Porirua to his final resting place in the far north.
