Maori trade rep sees Truss upside
The manager for Maori business at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise is confident new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss will be good for New Zealand business.
Dale Stephens says Ms Truss previously held the trade portfolio and will be well aware of details of the New Zealand-UK Free Trade agreement including indigenous Maori provisions in it.
He says Maori businesses haven’t looked to Britain because of the costs of getting to market, but the prospect of tariff-free access should change the picture.
“I think about some of our quality food and beverage. I think of our rangatahi who are doing fantastic stuff in digitech and gaming. Also things like our agritech, biotech, health products and nutriceuticals based on our clean green health raw materials we can turn into world class products for consumer markets,” Mr Stephens says
The free trade agreement should the signed early next year.
