Ngātiwai rangatira Haydn Edmonds farewell
Former Minister Shane Jones says Haydn Edmonds will be remembered for his efforts to put Ngātiwai on a sound basis.
Mr Edmond’s funeral is being held today at the Latter Day Saints Whangarei Chapel, after which he will be taken to Punaruku for burial.
Shane Jones says Mr Edmonds was a great supporter of former Labour prime minister Helen Clark, accompanying her on visits to the north, and also chaired Labour’s Te Taitokerau electorate committee.
He chaired Ngatiwai Trust Board for 11 years, spearheading projects such as the restoration of the Bland Bay camping grounds.
“A relatively young man and further evidence sadly of too many of our men going before the ideal time,” Mr Jones says.
Te Taitokerau Kelvin Davis says he’s lost a good mate.
