Kingi supported Midnight Oil on its Resist! tour appearance on Auckland on Saturday, and he has also been working on Whakaata Māori’s Our Other Islands series looking at significant motu of Aotearoa.
He says Year Of The Ratbags, the sixth instalment of his project to do 10 albums in 10 genres in 10 years, will take listeners back to the 1980s.
“All our instruments, even the engineering techniques were sourced solely from the eighties so it’s super-authentic. It’s – hopefully – going to blow peoples socks off,” Kingi says.
