Mental health calls to Plunket on the rise

Plunket is being flooded with calls from mothers seeking mental health support.
Plunket is being flooded with calls from mothers seeking mental health support.
Clinical leader Jacqui Taleni says calls to is helpline quadrupled from 2019 to 2021, with 7 percent coming from Maori.
Responding to those calls can be a challenge, as the services callers can be referred are not available in many parts of the country.
She hopes the health reforms will provide an answer.
Ms Taleni says the support services available where she is in Canterbury for maternal and infant mental are excellent, and she’d like to see them rolled out nationally.
