Māori acts dominate songwriting awards

The Rob Ruha feel good waiata 35, Troy Kingi’s He Orite and Marlon Williams’ My Boy have made the final five for this year’s APRA Silver Scroll songwriting award.
Also in the line up are Girl At Night by Christchurch indie band There’s A Tuesday and Beyond the Stars written by Tami Neilson and Delaney Davidson, which Neilson performed as a duet with country legend Willie Nelson.
35, performed by Ruha and Te Tairāwhiti choir Ka Hao, has had over 8 million streams on Spotify alone since it was released in late 2021.
Marlon Williams describes My Boy as a pop song with a Māori folk strum.
His album of the same name will be released on September 9.
The awards will be presented on October 18 at Spark Arena in Auckland.
