Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta says the late Mikhail Gorbachev will be remembered as the Soviet leader who brought an end to the Cold War and opened up his country.

Mr Gorbachev, who died this week aged 91, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990, a year before the Soviet Union fractured into 15 separate nations.
Ms Mahuta says he understood the way superpowers related to each other needed to change, and his country needed to change.
