Mediated bargaining for toilet paper lockout

The secretary of the Pulp and Paper Workers Union says Swedish unions are shocked at how the Swedish owners of the Kawerau Mill are treating workers.
Essity, the maker of Purex toilet paper, has locked out workers because they won’t accept its contract offer, and it’s now suing some of those workers for damages.
Tane Phillips says the company has agreed to mediated bargaining later this week, which he hopes can find a resolution.
“I’ve got a meeting with all my members on Monday. they are very staunch that they need this wage rise. We’ll see where it goes but we’re not taking a backward step with this negotiation so let’s see what happens on Thursday and Friday,” he says.
Tane Phillips says Kawerau workers worked throughout the Covid lockdowns to keep the country supplied with toilet paper, while management sheltered them at home with their families.
